Some Things to Keep in Mind When Exercising with a Stationary Bike

iStock 000003743305XSmallDifferent pieces of fitness equipment and different ways of exercising all have their own particular pro’s and con’s. Depending on your personality, some exercise types will work better or worse for you. In this article, I’ll try to cover some of the ways that exercising on a stationary bike can be a good idea for some people and a disaster of a plan for others. I hope that by using this information, you can decide if a stationary bike will be right for you.

It may seem pretty basic, but it’s pretty important for you to understand that on a stationary bike, you won’t be going anywhere. Even a treadmill will make it seem to your brain like you’re moving further than you’ll feel on a stationary bicycle. For some people, this can be a problem. They like the feel of the wind rushing around them as they bicycle around and like the scenery that they pass by. For the first problem, you can set up a fan next to you while you use a stationary bike so that you never get too hot. The problem of a change in scenery can be used to your advantage, as we’ll see next.

One of the unique advantages of using a stationary bike is that you can multi-task. You can read a book, listen to music, or watch television all with ease. These things can help you fend off boredom and even help you ignore the fact that you are exercising. And if you’re addicted to a few shows on television and can manage to exchange the sofa for the stationary bicycle, you can really get in shape.

Speaking of which, it’s important to keep in mind what you’re getting out of a stationary bike workout and what you’re not getting. You can easily burn 500 calories per hour at only moderate intensity. Unfortunately, you’ll only be building muscles in your legs and maybe abs, depending on the stationary bike set-up. If you’re looking for a full-body workout, this is not the answer.

A stationary bike can be a valuable tool to get in shape. If it sounds like the right way for you to exercise, try one out today at a local gym and consider getting one for your home.

Yes! nothing beats the natural setting. The healthy and fresh ambience outside of the home is very energizing. So I would still prefer the real thing and not stationaty biking.

Either way, what we have to achieve is a total body workout. It actually depends on your lifestyle. If you can find the time to do real biking; then it’s much better. But, for busy people who want to keep fit, stationary biking is a great option.

Total health is really in consideration of whether stationary biking is good for you. I have one installed at home and it is very convenient and I get to use it anytime I want just to de-stress or keep fit.

  5. Christina says:

I found stationary bikes very boring. Therefore, I moved it in my drawing room and now watch daily soaps or some interesting movies while exercising. In this way, I do not get bored and burn some extra calories.

I find stationary bike very convenient. I return late from office and combine my workout regimes with watching news. I get relaxed and at the same time burn fat to get in shape. On weekends, I listen to soothing music while exercising and sometimes even read some magazines. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
